When to Call the Pediatrician
Call the pediatrician whenever baby doesn’t seem to be him or herself. Indications of a problem might be when the baby:
- Has a fever greater than 100.4˚F rectally or greater than 90˚F auxiliary (under the arm)
- Has diarrhea consisting of frequent, watery, foul-smelling stools or stools that contain pus or blood
- Vomits forcefully after more than one feeding
- Behavior changes (i.e. cries excessively or is sleeping more than usual)
- Has unusual drainage from any site such as the eyes or umbilical cord area
- Has a decrease in urination (wet diapers) or has not urinated within eight hours of a circumcision
- Still has the plastibell more than eight days after a circumcision
- Has increasing jaundice or yellow color to the skin; at the same time, baby may sleeping more, eating less and having fewer wet or soiled diapers
- Refuses to eat for longer than six to eight hours
- Has difficulty breathing
