COLON CANCER:
screening guidelines
Saint John's Health Center believes early detection is
imperative to the successful treatment of colon cancer; the more
advanced the cancer the harder it is to treat effectively. Screening tests can help find colon cancer early. It is recommended that women should begin regular colon cancer screening at age 50.
Screening Guidelines
- Fecal occult blood testing every year
- Colonoscopy every 5-10 years
More frequent or earlier screening may be recommended if a woman is at high risk for colon cancer. To get a complete list of age-appropriate screening guidelines for women, download the Passport to Women’s Health.
