colon CANCER
There is an odd perception that colon cancer is a man's disease. It is not. Women get colon cancer in almost the same numbers as men, at the same ages as men and require the same screening as men. According to the American Cancer Society, there are nearly 72,000 new cases of colon cancer each year in women and colon cancer is the third leading cause of death in women.
Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine and it usually begins as small benign polyps. Over time some of these polyps can turn cancerous. Saint John’s Health Center offers women with colon cancer a full range of treatment options and support.
