OBSTETRICS/MATERNITY:

 Rh-Negative Mothers

If a woman’s blood is Rh-negative, her baby’s blood will be tested to see if the child has inherited the Rh factor from the father. If the baby’s blood type turns out to be Rh-positive, mother will need to receive an injection of the Rh immune globulin called RhoGAM within 24 hours of delivery. RhoGAM will protect future unborn children by preventing antibodies from forming in the blood.
