Obstetrics/Maternity:

 Nail Care

A newborn’s toenails and fingernails should be kept clean and cut regularly to prevent the baby from scratching himself.  It is best to wait to cut a newborn’s nails until they are two weeks old.  The best time to cut nails is when the baby is sleeping.  Have someone hold the finger or foot steady while cutting nails.  Toenails should be cut straight across to prevent ingrown toenails, while fingernails can be cut slightly rounded.
